Dietary Recommendations
Please eat a diet relatively low in saturated fat (eat only lean organic meat, organic poultry and fish -- salmon, tuna, mackerel, trout, and bluefish -- 3 to 5 ounces per day) and high in fiber containing foods such as organic vegetables, fruits, whole grains (e.g., brown rice, spelt, kamut, millet, and oats), beans, nuts and seeds (chia, sunflower, flax, pumpkin, almond, walnut and learn better eating habits. Try eating Hank's Vegetable Soup several times a week. Try making fruit smoothies with ground chia (or flax, sesame, pumpkin, and sunflower seeds), fruit, Rejuvenate! Berries & Herbs, oat bran, eggs, and fruit juice. Avoid all sweets (sugar) and processed/refined foods (white bread and pasta). Try not to eat the same thing every day. Muscle weakness could be caused by reactions to foods and chemicals. Be observant to correlations between symptoms and the foods and chemicals you have eaten or been exposed to. Typical problem foods include: dairy products, chocolate, wheat, tomatoes, peanuts/peanut oil, eggs, hydrogenated oils, yeast, sugars, and cotton seed oil. Typical problem chemicals include: pesticides, commercial soaps, petroleum by-products, metal catalysts and other heavy metals (eg. aluminum, nickel, mercury, and cadmium), BHT & BHA, food coloring, sulfites, tobacco, and alcohol.
Other Suggestions
You may need to follow an anti-candida program, especially if you have been on antibiotics for an extended period of time. Fibromyalgia is often associated with an earlier viral problem such as mononucleosis. Hypothyroidism is common in fibromyalgia - test yourself using the Barnes Axial Temperature test and the Tincture of Iodine test. If you detect the possibility of subclinical or primary hypothyroidism, please follow the recommendations on the Hypothyroisism protocol and read Dr. Broda Barnes' book Hypothyroidism: The Unsuspected Illness.
Poor adaptation to stress is common to those with fibromyalgia. Please practice methods which help you to adapt better to stress. These include: Yoga, meditation, deep breathing exercises, biofeedback, massage, and autogenics/visualizations. Physical exercise is important and could include walking up to 4 miles daily, swimming, Tai Chi, and other activities suitable to you. Please read Minding the Body Mending the Mind by Joan Borysenko. Acupuncture and chiropractic treatments are recommended.
