YEAST/MOLD SYNDROME CANDIDA ALBICANS OVERGROWTH ELIMINATION PROGRAM
SUGGESTED SUPPLEMENT AND ACTIVITY SCHEDULE
The following suggestions have been found to be helpful to those with symptomatic and/or laboratory evidence of overgrowth of Candida albicans or similar yeast/mold syndromes. None of the items listed below require prescriptions and, as such, may be used in self-help programs. Candida albicans overgrowth in the body is a serious problem, and you are encouraged to visit a health professional experienced in the treatment of Candida albicans if symptoms persist. You may not be able to follow all of these suggestions, but are urged to do as many as possible. Most of the items listed below are available from Health Products Distributors, Inc. (HPDI) and can be obtained by calling 1-800-228-4265.
- ITEMS 1 THROUGH 6 BELOW ARE AIMED AT STRENGTHENING THE BODY'S ABILITY TO DEAL WITH FOREIGN ORGANISMS OR SUBSTANCES, WHEREAS THE REMAINING ITEMS ARE AIMED AT ELIMINATING THE CANDIDA ALBICANS OVERGROWTH.
- WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND DOING ALL OF ITEMS 1 THROUGH 9.
- Avoid foods to which you are sensitive or allergic (common allergens include: wheat, milk, yeast, peanuts, mushrooms, and simple sugars). Do not eat refined and processed foods (such as white bread, white rice, TV dinners, soft drinks, etc). Avoid all alcoholic beverages.
- For the first month a high protein and high complex carbohydrate diet is recommended.
• High protein: 100-120 grams per day.
• High complex carbohydrate (such as vegetable, legumes, pulses, and acceptable whole grains): 300-400 grams per day.
• Avoid sweet fruits and high-carbohydrate vegetables in accordance with the Notes and Data on the "Carbohydrate Content of Fruits and Vegetables" Chart (Candida Albicans can grow rapidly in simple sugars).
• Take in a moderate amount of fat (less than 25% of total calories preferably from seeds, nuts and fish).
• Freshly juiced vegetables are allowed. After the first month or as symptoms improve, gradually double the complex carbohydrate and reduce the amount of protein by a half.
• Slowly reintroduce the high carbohydrate fruits and vegetables you have refrained from (again, follow the Chart).
• Organically grown sources for all of your foods are strongly recommended. - Take high quality supplements that 1) exclude common allergens, 2) are specific regarding sources and content, 3) contain a complete and balanced set of vitamins, minerals, and cofactors, 4) exclude iron, and 5) are highly bioavailable. We recommend taking two a day of HPDI’s Multi Two tablets or four a day of Hank & Brian’s Mighty Multi-Vite. Also, please take four a day of Hank & Brian’s Essential Fats plus E.
- Take ascorbate buffered salts, (e.g., Buffered C and/or Pro-C) to bowel tolerance. To reach bowel tolerance, begin by taking small amounts (1 gram -- tablet or powder form) several times a day, and increase the amount by 1 gram every few days. When you experience stomach cramps or diarrhea you have reached bowel tolerance -- now back off by 1 or 2 grams. Some people are able to take more than 20 grams a day before reaching bowel tolerance. It is best to use a non-corn antigen source of buffered Vitamin C for this purpose. If for any reason you plan to stop taking Vitamin C, do so by slowly reducing the amount taken over a period of about ten days. After being at bowel tolerance for three to six months, reduce your daily intake of Vitamin C to between 5 and 10 grams except during times of illness when you should again be at bowel tolerance.
- Take active acidophilus culture to repopulate your gut with "good for you" flora and to crowd out and eliminate the Candida Albicans. We recommend HPDI’s Polydophilus™. It is an excellent product comprised of multiple and synergistic strains of organisms. Each capsule contains over 3 billion organisms. Take 2-3 capsules with each meal for one month, then 3 capsules daily for three months.
- Drink ginger tea which provides detoxifying and strengthening sulfur compounds. This tea is made from fresh ginger root, chopped or minced, and steeped for 15 to 20 minutes in hot water. Sixteen or more ounces per day are recommended.
- Avoid distress as much as possible and practice relaxation methods such as deep breathing, meditation or biofeedback.
- Brush your teeth with a paste comprised of buffered ascorbate, baking soda and peroxide. You may mix equal amounts of ascorbate and baking soda in your palm and add just enough 0.5% peroxide to make a paste which you can put on your toothbrush.
- Gargle with a solution of Liquid Grapefruit Seed Extract -- 5 to 10 drops in 5 oz. of water. Or you can gargle with a solution of Nascent Iodine – 5-10 drops in 2 oz. of water. Also, acidophilus capsules can be emptied into the mouth for oral candidiasis.
- DO AS MANY AS YOU CAN OF ITEMS 10 TO 15. FOR THE MOST PART THESE ARE FOOD ITEMS WHICH HAVE THE ABILITY TO KILL OR INHIBIT CANDIDA ALBICANS.
- BIOTIN APPEARS TO BE PARTICULARLY GOOD AGAINST THE MYCELIAL (INGROWTH) FORM OF CANDIDA ALBICANS.
- Eat raw sauerkraut (6-8 ounces) every other day, assuming sensitivity to cabbage is absent. Sauerkraut is a rich source of d-lactic acid, an inhibitor of yeast growth.
- On days when sauerkraut is not taken, drink organic apple cider vinegar if you are not sensitive to apple or its vinegar. Drink 15 cc (l/2 ounce) of the vinegar diluted with water to taste.
- Drink Shiitake mushroom micelia tea, if you are not sensitive to fungi or mushrooms.
- Take One-a-Day Garlic tablets (enteric coated). Take two with each meal and also before bed. Six cloves of fresh garlic is a recommended alternative since cooking will destroy the active ingredient which kills Candida Albicans. Our recipe for Hank's Pesto Sauce is an excellent way of getting both garlic and ginger.
- Take biotin. Start at l mg per day and increase at a rate of l mg per week up to 5 mg per day, assuming you have no reaction to the biotin source. Biotin is best taken between meals.
- Take a medicinal mushroom herbal remedy aimed at strengthening the immune system. We recommend HPDI’s Immune-Assist™ Daily Formula. Take two capsules three times per day.
- DO 1 OR 2 OF NUMBERS 16 THROUGH 19.
- IN GENERAL START SLOWLY BECAUSE OF POSSIBLE DIE-OFF REACTIONS.
- THERE ARE OVER 30 KNOWN SPECIES OF CANDIDA ORGANISMS AND NOT ALL OF THEM ARE AFFECTED BY EACH OF THE SUBSTANCES LISTED. THEREFORE, IF YOU ARE NOT SUCCESSFUL AT FIRST, TRY ANOTHER COMBINATION OF SUBSTANCES.
- Take CAN-PLEX to inhibit yeast growth in the terminal small intestine and colon. This product
contains undecylenic acid, Pau D'arco, and Citrus Seed Extract. Take as directed. - Drink Goldenseal (Hydrastis Canadensis) tea or take capsules from a freeze-dried, wild-crafted
source. Take 2 capsules three times per day for a period of three weeks. - Take Liquid Grapefruit Seed Extract. Start at five drops in 5 ounces of vegetable or citrus juice (or
water), three times daily. Slowly increase the amount per dose in increments of one drop over a period
of ten days up to a maximum of 10 drops. Some prefer Powdered Grapefruit Seed Extract, which is
basically the same as Liquid Grapefruit Seed Extract except it is in capsule form and does not taste
bitter. Each capsule is equivalent to 5 drops of the liquid. Continue for three months. - Take Mycosode™ homeopathic remedy for relief of Candida Albicans and other fungal pathogens,
respectively. Take as directed on the bottle or by your health professional.
