ANTIOXIDANT FORMULA Features:

• N-ACETYL-L-CYSTEINE (NAC) is a powerful free-radical scavenger. A majority of orally-ingested NAC undergoes deacetylation to form L-cysteine, an important sulfur-containing amino acid. L-cysteine is the rate-limiting amino acid for the production of glutathione, a major antioxidant in the body. NAC thereby has powerful implications for immune function and for increasing the body's free-radical trapping capacities

• VITABERRY® PLUS® is a powdered nutritional blend exhibiting extremely high ORAC value derived from freeze-dried grape seed, wild blueberry, wild bilberry, cranberry, tart cherry, prune, raspberry seed, strawberry, resveratrol, and quercetin. This potent blend carries an ORAC value in excess of 1.2 million units per 100 grams. • CHLORELLA (Chorella pyrenoidosa) is one of Nature’s perfect foods. This unicellular freshwater, green microalga is a whole, natural superfood. It has existed on earth for billions of years. Beyond its high-quality protein (its amino acid profile is similar to egg), essential fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, and fiber, chlorella’s high levels of nucleic acids (5% to 15% RNA and 0.5% to 0.15% DNA) significantly boost its nutritional and therapeutic value. The dietary intake of nucleic-acid rich chlorella has been shown to be a useful adjunct in protocols for a wide variety of health conditions, including cardiovascular ailments (and lowering chloresterol and triglycerides), cancer, liver conditions, kidney conditions, diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, digestive conditions, tissue detoxification (including detoxification of heavy metals), skin problems, and strengthening of immune function. Chlorella has demonstrated its capacity to stimulate healing in the body. it promotes growth in young individuals and allows repair to damaged tissues in mature individuals. It also has been shown to have normalizing and strengthening effects on many tissues and metabolic pathways. • GINGER ROOT POWDER. Ginger rhizome (Zingiber officinalis) is an incredibly active herb exhibiting many beneficial and therapeutic properties, including: 1) Contains a digestive enzyme whose effectiveness exceeds that of papain; 2) Stimulates the flow of saliva and increases concentration of digestive enzyme amylase within saliva; 3) Activates peristalsis and increases intestinal muscle tone, and 4) Increaes blood flow in the body. Ginger also is known to be helpful in cases of nausea and historically has been used to treat inflammation, especially in cases of arthritic conditions.

• GREEN TEA EXTRACT (90% polyphenols, including 60% EGCG): Green tea extract is used primarily for its free-radical fighting capabilities. Its key ingredient is epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which protects against digestive and respiratory infections. It helps block the cancer-promoting actions of carcinogens, ultraviolet (UV) light, and metastasis from an original site in the skin stomach, small intestine, liver, or lung. EGCG is known to reduce platelet aggregation about as effectively as aspirin. Green tea is very effective in inhibiting pathogenic bacteria that cause food poisoning and increases levels of friendly intestinal bacteria. It also blocks attachment of bacteria associated with dental caries (e.g., cavities) in teeth.

• QUERCETIN CHALCONE®. Quercetin is one of the major nutrients used to control inflammation in the body. Typical forms of quercetin are not well absorbed in the human intestinal tract, thus requiring large dosages for absorption at therapeutic levels. However, the form of quercetin (chalcone form) included in our formula is highly water soluble and extremely well assimilated by the body. Moreover, quercetin chalcone is a non-toxic form of quercetin, as determined by the Ames test and in animal studies, and therefore appears to be a safer form of quercetin.

• FERULIC ACID is a substance found in the seeds and leaves of most plants. It is especially effective in neutralizing free radicals known as ‘superoxides,’ ‘hydroxl radicals,’ and ‘nitric oxide.’ Ferulic acid acts synergistically with other antioxidants, giving them added potency. Ferulic acid also can be activated to even higher antioxidant activity by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light. This suggests that ferulic acid can help to protect skin from sun damage.

• BIOVIN® GRAPE EXTRACT. The grape extract in ANTIOXIDANT FORMULA is extracted by ethanol and water from grape seeds, skins and stems and contains the highest percentage of OPCs of any product on the market. OPCs constitute a class of bioflavonoids and this class of bioflavonoids is among Nature’s most powerful free-radical scavengers. As bioflavonoids, OPCs help to increase the effectiveness of Vitamin C. OPCs cross the blood-brain barrier to provide antioxidant protection to central nervous system tissues. Studies have clearly demonstrated that OPC improve and normalize capillary activity and strengthen capillary walls. OPC bind to collagen fibers, realigning them in the process to a more youthful, undamaged structure. Elasticity, flexibility, and strength thereby are restored to connective tissues. In addition, BioVin® Grape Extract contains signficant amounts of anthocyanidins and trans-resveratrol, both of which themselves are powerful antioxidants.

• SELENIUM is a trace mineral required in the body. Its primary function is carried out in the form of selenomethionine, which is incorporated into four active sites of the enzyme glutathione peroxidase. This enzyme protects the body against free-radical damage (especially when it occurs in cell membranes) caused by the oxidation of unsaturated fatty acids. Selenium historically has been linked to Vitamin E because Vitamin E blocks the production of oxidized fatty acids in cell membranes. Selenium also appears to exert antioxidant activity by itself. Selenium is involved in the production and utilization of thyroid hormone, and it is antagonistic to heavy metals, including lead, mercury, aluminum, and cadmium. According to a publication of the National Research Council (NRC), “One could reasonably suppose that selenium is involved [i.e., exerts a protective function] in such human medical problems as cancer, cataracts, diseases of the liver, cardiovascular or muscular diseases, and the aging process.” Selenium in its vital role in glutathione peroxidase affects all components of the immune system, including the development and function of all white blood cells.
