MELATONIN
Regulates Sleep and the Body’s Biological Clock

MELATONIN contains 3 mg of the highest-quality melatonin in a preservative-free gelatin capsule with a cellulose filler. For smaller doses the capsule may be opened and a portion emptied into the mouth.
NUTRITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS & APPLICATIONS:
Melatonin is a hormone produced in the pineal gland. It is involved with the regulation of the body's biological clock, acts as a very powerful free-radical scavenger (especially against the OH- radical), triggers the body's sleep mechanisms, acts as an age-retarding substance, and coordinates the hormones involved in fertility (see Science News 147: 300-301).
Melatonin levels in the body normally rise at night and fall during daylight hours. Uses of melatonin include helping individuals with insomnia to fall asleep, counteracting jet lag, helping individuals involved in shift work, and supporting persons experiencing mood swings (see Melatonin: Nature’s Sleeping Pill by Ray Sahelian, MD).
Many people report vivid dreams while taking melatonin. Some people become groggy or sluggish when taking supplemental melatonin, indicating the importance of correct dosage. Studies show melatonin is non-toxic even in large amounts (more than 7500 mg).
