PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: PERMA PLUS™ contains the highest-quality available forms of l-glutamine, n-acetyl-d-glucosamine (NAG), aloe vera concentrate (200:1), and fructooligosaccharides (FOS). These ingredients are contained in a preservative-free gelatin capsule.

NUTRITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS & APPLICATIONS: L-glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in the human body where it functions as a major fuel source. It is one of the few amino acids that contain 2 nitrogen atoms, and thereby is important in DNA synthesis. Glutamine is essential for the health and function of the intestinal wall. Glutamine deficiency states may result in diarrhea, villous atrophy, mucosal ulceration, increased intestinal permeability, and intestinal necrosis. Glutamine has been shown to protect against bacterial translocation, to promote healing, and to enhance the growth and absorptive capacity of the intestinal mucosa. Glutamine is stored in muscle tissue for subsequent needs by other body tissues and inhibits muscle atrophy induced by stress hormones. N-acetyl-d-glucosamine (NAG) is a major component of mucopolysaccharides and therefore is a key component in connective tissue. The gut and gastric epithelium (especially the glycocalyx) have high concentrations of mucopolysaccharides which help provide structural integrity in the intestinal wall. NAG has been shown to accelerate wound healing. Aloe vera extract contains polysaccharides and other substances that stimulate tissue growth and repair processes, reduce inflammation, inhibit pathogens, and strengthen immune function. Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) are used by lactic acid bacteria as a fuel, which allows for the rapid growth of beneficial species, including bifidobacteria and lactobacilli. These helpful bacteria support the digestive processes in the gut and inhibit the growth of pathogens.
