PROSTA PLUS is a synergistic formula containing a standardized saw palmetto berry extract (85–95 percent fatty acids and sterols), stinging nettle root extract (16:1), a standardized pumpkin seed extract (4:1) (greater than 85 percent fatty acids), diindolylmethane (DIM), beta-sitosterol, pygeum africanum extract (2.5%), and flower pollen extract (20:1). This unique formula includes the amino acids l-alanine, glycine, l-glutamic acid, and n-acetyl-l-cysteine (NAC) that act together to reduce prostate inflammation and promote glutathione production. The fatty acids in PROSTA PLUS are protected by ascorbyl palmitate (fat-soluble Vitamin C) and Vitamin E (as mixed tocopherols). The product is provided in a tablet that readily disintegrates in the stomach, but has a coating that further protects the product from degradation by oxygen and moisture.

NUTRITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS & APPLICATIONS: For men over 50, the most common prostate problem is prostate enlargement, also called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). As the prostate grows, it squeezes the urethra, causing urinary problems. Some of these problems include: 1) A frequent and urgent need to urinate, 2) Trouble starting a urine stream, even though you feel you have to rush to get to the bathroom, 3) A weak stream of urine, 4) A small amount of urine each time you go, 5) The feeling that you still have to go, even when you have just finished urinating, 6) Waking up to urinate more than once or twice a night, 7) Leaking or dribbling urine, and 8) Small amounts of blood in your urine. Other common prostate problems include prostatitis, an infection or inflammation of the prostate that often causes pain or discomfort, and cancer. 

There have been numerous research studies on natural ingredients that are able to effectively address the above-mentioned prostate problems. Each of these ingredients appears to have the ability to deal with only some of the problems and it is generally known that by including a range of ingredients, it is possible to create formulas that are broadly effective against the full range of conditions. The therapeutic effects of the liposterolic extract of saw palmetto berry has been shown in clinical studies to significantly improve signs and symptoms of prostate gland enlargement. Recent advances in the treatment of benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH) have shown that the addition of stinging nettle (Urtica dioica) root extract adds another dimension to supporting prostate function by blocking the formation of estrogens, influencing the effect of sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) on BPH, and reducing edema (e.g., see Townsend Letter for Doctors, April 1995: 144; July 1995: 129). 

More traditionally, a lipophilic pumpkin seed extract has been used effectively for BPH. Pygeum africanum extracts have been shown to increase urinary function (reduced frequency and urgency of urination) in those with BPH.

Diindolylmethane has been shown to possess potent anticancer properties and causes estrogen to metabolize into safer forms such as the protective 2-hydroxyestrone (2-OHE1). Beta-sitosterol has been used successfully in the treatment of BPH especially in combination with saw palmetto. Flower pollen extract has been used for decades to reduce inflammation in the prostate gland especially for those suffering from BPH. The combination of l-alanine, glycine, and l-glutamic acid has proven effective for reducing prostatic inflammation and the additional of NAC to this group of amino acids is expected to increase the production of the protective tripeptide glutathione.
