Essential Fats for PetsSmall Pet Essential Fats™ is a unique essential fatty acid formula designed to provide optimal levels of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. These healthy lipids help build, support, and maintain healthy cellular function in pets, including providing the nutrients that best supply them with what they need for beautiful coats, healthy skin, bright eyes, calm disposition, peak brain function, healthy hearts, and many other benefits (see below) known to be related to the consumption of balanced omega-3 and omega-6 essential fats.

SMALL PET ESSENTIAL FATS™ contains eicosapentanoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) (important usable forms of essential omega-3 fatty acids), gamma linolenic acid (GLA) (an important essential omega-6 fatty acid), and mixed tocotrienols and tocopherols (forms of Vitamin E that provide antioxidant protection within the body and in the sofgel capsule). The EPA and DHA are derived from marine lipids using a molecular distillation process and the GLA is derived from borage seed oil. The mixed tocotrienols and tocopherols are derived from rice bran oil, and they provide exceptionally effective antioxidant protection. Every batch of fish oil contained in this product is tested and guaranteed to contain insignificant levels of heavy metals, PCBs, pesticides, and other organic contaminants.

Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids are known to play important roles in the formation of prostaglandins. The prostaglandins are important cellular regulators that control inflammatory processes and pain in the body. Fish oils may be useful adjuncts in protocols dealing with: 1) Cardiovascular disease, 2) Hypertension, 3) Arthritis and other inflammatory disorders, 4) Psoriasis and other skin problems, 5) Diabetes mellitus and 6) Depression, and 7) Kidney disease. GLA may be a useful adjunct in protocols dealing with: 1) Multiple Sclerosis and 2) Arthritis. Research by Chapkin et. al. indicates that in a balanced formula there are synergistic effects between EPA, DHA, and GLA. For example, it is known that EPA inhibits the conversion of GLA into the pro-inflammatory and pain causing arachidonic acid. According to Chapkin’s research, a formula containing a 4-to-1 ratio of EPA to GLA provides the optimal balance of these important fatty acids. Because these fatty acids have many double bonds that are prone to oxidation both inside the bottle and within the body, we include in SMALL PET ESSENTIAL FATS™ a broad range of Vitamin E in the forms of mixed tocotrienols and tocopherols. In addition, the forms of Vitamin E contained in our well balanced formula: 1) May reduce arterial plaques and enhance blood flow, 2) Act as potent inhibitors of platelet aggregation and thromboxane, 3) Protect serum lipids from oxidation, including LDL and HDL, 4) Reduce carotid stenosis (narrowing) and may help prevent stroke, 5) Serve as a trap to harmful nitrogenous radicals, 6) Act as anti-proliferative and anti-cancer agents, and 7) Provide powerful oxidative defense for the skin.

DIRECTIONS: As a dietary supplement for pets, give 1 softgel capsule daily per 20 pounds of body weight preferably with food, or as directed by an animal health care professional. Capsule may be pierced and contents emptied or squeezed on food.
