PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: JOINT HEALTH FORMULA is a synergistic formula containing glucosamine HCl, MSM, desiccated Sea Cucumber (Beche de Mer), Quercetin Chalcone® (a highly bioavailable water-soluble form of quercetin), Turmeric (standardized to 95% min. curcuminoids), Grape Seed Extract (min. 85% OPC), Strontium (chelated with lysine and glycine), Vitamin D3, Manganese (chelated with glycine), Selenium (from l-selenomethionine), and Bioperine® (a patented pepper extract that enhances absorption of all ingredients). Desiccated liver (porcine source) has been added to increase the nutritional value and to greatly enhance palatability. The product is provided in both gelatin capsule and powdered form and includes no dicalcium phosphate or magnesium stearate.

NUTRITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS AND APPLICATIONS: Glucosamines are rate-limiting substrates for the metabolic transformation to larger molecules that go to make up glycosaminoglycans (GAG's) and proteoglycans. The principal known GAG's are hyaluronic acid, keratan sulfate, heparin and heparin sulfate, dermata sulfate, and chondroitin sulfate. Proteoglycans, large molecules built from GAG's, are most abundant in connective tissues such as cartilage, skin, blood vessel walls, sclera, cornea, intervertebral discs and tendons, as well as synovial fluid and the vitreous body. MSM is a natural source of sulfur, a mineral element critical to the normal function and structure of animals’ bodies. Sulfur is a raw material for the protein and connective tissue (especially proteoglycans and glycosaminoglycans such as hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulfate) that make up the body mass of animals, for enzymes that conduct countless chemical reactions, and for powerful natural compounds (such as glutathione) that protect against toxicity and harmful free radicals. In addition, MSM is a pain-reducing agent. It blocks the transmission of impulses in nerve fibers that carry pain signals. Sea cucumber or beche de mer, a marine animal, is highly regarded as a food and for its medicinal properties as a general health tonic and more specifically for those with chronic joint pain as well as tendonitis, bursitis, prostatitis, sciatica, sprains, ligament stresses and arthritis. Sea cucumber contains approximately 20% chondroitin sulfates, substances known to support the formation of connective tissues. Several clinical studies conducted over the last ten years in both the U.S. and Australia demonstrated sea cucumber to have efficacy in the treatment of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis and, in fact, some researchers consider sea cucumber to be a breakthrough treatment for arthritic conditions. Quercetin is one of the major nutrients used to control inflammation in arthritic conditions. The usual forms of quercetin used are not well absorbed in the intestinal tract so large amounts are needed. The form of quercetin (chalcone form) used in this product is highly water soluble and extremely well absorbed into the body. Turmeric is another well-known anti-inflammatory herb useful for those with arthritic conditions. Grape seed extract is a well-known connective tissue strengthener that can prevent the enzymatic breakdown of structural support tissue and reduce inflammation. Strontium is a mineral found along with calcium in most foods. Research has long suggested that it may be an essential nutrient required for the normal development, structure, function, and health of the skeletal system. Clinical trials going back into the 1940s have supported this conclusion, but recent studies have provided evidence that it can offer unique nutritional support against loss of bone structure and function. Recent research on Vitamin D has shown that most people are not getting a sufficient amount of this essential vitamin needed for bone formation. In fact, according to the results of a recent multicenter, longitudinal study, low serum levels of Vitamin D are correlated with changes in the incidence of hip osteoarthritis (OA) in older women. Manganese is important in the metabolic processes for making connective tissue. Selenium works in the enzyme glutathione peroxidase to reduce inflammation and free-radical damage in the body. Bioperine® is a black pepper extract that has been shown to enhance the absorption of nutrients by 30% to 60%, and as such should make all of the nutrients in this product more effective. Desiccated liver is a food that attracts most animals and it ensures that pets will take the product. JOINT HEALTH FORMULA will be most effective when used in conjunction with other basic nutritional supplements that support the body’s metabolism such as 2DOCS Pet Mighty-Multi, 2DOCS Pet-C Plus and 2DOCS Essential Fats for Pets.

DIRECTIONS: As a dietary supplement for pets, give 3 capsules daily per 20 pounds of body weight or 1 scoop daily per 30 pounds of body weight preferably with food, or as directed by an animal health professional. Joint Health Formula may be sprinkled onto or mixed into food.
