LARGE PET ESSENTIAL FATS™ is a unique essential fatty acid formula providing eicosapentanoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) (important usable forms of essential omega-3 fatty acids), gamma linolenic acid (GLA) (an important essential omega-6 fatty acid), mixed tocotrienols and tocopherols (Vitamin E), and astaxanthin. The EPA and DHA are in the form of triglycerides derived from marine lipids using a patented flash molecular distillation process and the GLA is derived from cold processed borage seed oil. Each batch of fish oil contained in this formula is tested and guaranteed to contain insignificant levels of heavy metals, PCBs, pesticides, and other organic contaminants. The mixed tocotrienols and tocopherols are derived from rice bran and are included in the soft-gel capsules to provide antioxidant protection to the polyunsaturated oils. Astaxanthin is a powderful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory nutrient derived from the algae Haematococcus pluvialis.

NUTRITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS AND APPLICATIONS: Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids are known to play important roles in the formation of prostaglandins. The prostaglandins are important cellular regulators that control inflammatory processes and pain in the body. Fish oils may be useful adjuncts in protocols that deal with 1) Cardiovascular disease, 2) Hypertension, 3) Arthritis and other inflammatory disorders, 4) Psoriasis and other skin problems, 5) Diabetes mellitus, 6) Depression, and 7) Kidney disease. GLA may be a useful adjunct in protocols that deal with 1) Multiple Sclerosis and 2) Arthritis. Research indicates that in a balanced formula there are synergistic effects between EPA, DHA, and GLA. For example, it is known that EPA inhibits the conversion of GLA into the pro-inflammatory and pain causing aracidonic acid. Because these fatty acids have many double bonds that are prone to oxidation both inside the bottle and in the body, the formula includes a broad range of forms of Vitamin E as mixed tocotrienols and tocopherols. In addition, the forms of Vitamin E contained in this formula: 1) May reduce arterial plaques and enhance blood flow, 2) Act as potent inhibitors of platelet aggregation and thromboxane, 3) Protect serum lipids (including LDL and HDL) from oxidation, 4) Reduce carotid stenosis (narrowing) and may help prevent stroke, 5) Serve as a trap to harmful nitrogenous radicals, 6) Are anti-proliferative and anti-cancer agents, and 7) Provide powerful oxidative defense for the skin. Astaxanthin is known to be effective in protecting cell and mitochondrial membranes from oxidative stress, enhancing ocular health, improving memory, and ameliorating insulin resistance.
